Meet our Music Director

MUSIC DIRECTOR – JANE THEDHAM

Our Music Director is Jane Thedham who was one of the founders of Bay Community Singers back in 2014 when it started out as a small group of singers meeting at the Grange Institute.
Jane is an experienced and committed musician with a lifelong passion for singing which started when she joined her primary school choir.  Since then, she has always sung in choirs, ranging from large choruses like the Bach Choir in London under Sir David Wilcocks to a smaller unaccompanied early music group based in the South Lakes.

Within the local community Jane has worked with a range of community groups including leading a singing group through Cartmel Adult Education, tutoring at Cartmel Music Centre, leading the youth choir, The Amici Singers and as MD of Grange Amateur Operatic Society for five of their productions from 2015-2020.  She has also worked as a private music teacher.

In her professional life, following completion of a music degree in Cardiff, Jane worked in an administrative capacity at some well known Arts organisations including a spell at English National Opera in London.  Retraining as a primary school teacher, Jane embedded a strong music ethos within her school running a successful school choir, orchestra and ensuring the children had access to high level instrumental tuition across a range of instruments and as many music experiences as possible such as taking part in major festivals and attending Young Voices in Manchester.

Jane is incredibly proud of the development of Bay Community Singers over the years, not just with the large number of members it now has, but the excellence it achieves in performance, the fun and friendship that is shared and the money that has been raised for charities over the years.

In her spare time, Jane enjoys walking her two bearded collies, spending time with friends, singing in Levens Choir and playing her harp as part of Harps South Lakes.
